There are more than 140 different varieties of Koi, and new varieties are being born all the time.

In order for many people around the world to enjoy Koi with peace of mind, we think it is important to have uniform names and standards for the varieties. Therefore, in Japan, the main terms related to Koi, as well as names and definitions of 21 varieties, were established as Japanese Agricultural Standards in February 2022.

In this booklet, in addition to the 21 JAS-established varieties, we have established names and definitions for 129 varieties and systematized each variety in an easy-to-understand manner.

With these unified standards we hope that Koi will be loved all over the world.
