Description

Asian Red Tailed Catfish Hemibagrus Wyckioides 8cm

Overview: The Asian Red Tailed Catfish, scientifically known as Hemibagrus Wyckioides, is a striking freshwater fish prized for its vibrant red tail and sleek, elongated body. Originating from Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand and Indonesia, this species captivates enthusiasts with its captivating appearance and active nature.

Origin: Native to freshwater river systems in Southeast Asia, these catfish thrive in warm, well-oxygenated waters with a preference for slower-moving currents.

Feeding: As opportunistic omnivores, they readily accept a varied diet consisting of pellets, live or frozen foods like bloodworms, shrimp, and occasional vegetables. Their voracious appetite makes them enthusiastic eaters.

Tank Mates: Due to their large size and potential predatory nature, tank mates should be carefully selected. Compatible tank mates include large, robust species that won’t be seen as prey. Peaceful fish that can withstand their size and occasional territorial behavior are advisable.

Aggression: While not inherently aggressive, their size and predatory instincts make them unsuitable for smaller tank mates. They may display territorial behavior, especially when they feel crowded or threatened.

Experience Level: Keeping Asian Red Tailed Catfish requires moderate to advanced experience in fishkeeping. Their size and specific tank requirements make them better suited for experienced aquarists who can provide adequate space and care.

Water Parameters: Optimal conditions include a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5, temperature between 75-82°F (24-28°C), and a spacious aquarium setup with excellent filtration due to their large size and waste output.
