Description

Pseudotropheus Cynotilapia Afra Cobue Malawi African Cichlid

Overview: The Cynotilapia Afra Cobue, often simply known as the Cobue, is a strikingly colorful cichlid, cherished in the aquarium hobby for its vibrant hues and dynamic behavior. This species showcases a blend of blue, yellow, and black patterns, which vary between males and females, making them a standout addition to any freshwater aquarium.

Origin: Native to the rocky shores of Lake Malawi in Africa, the Cobue thrives in environments rich in hiding spaces. Their natural habitat is characterized by crystal clear water and a rocky, cavernous landscape, providing ample hiding spots to evade predators.

Feeding: Omnivorous by nature, the Cynotilapia Afra Cobue’s diet should include a balanced mix of high-quality cichlid pellets or flakes, supplemented with occasional live or frozen treats such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Regular feeding ensures vibrant coloration and health.

Tank Mates: Ideal tank mates include other Malawi cichlids of similar size and temperament, avoiding overly aggressive or significantly larger species. Cohabitation with non-cichlid species is not recommended due to their specific environmental needs and potential for aggression.

Aggression: While generally peaceful towards other species, males can show territorial aggression towards each other, especially during breeding. Providing a spacious tank with plenty of rock formations for territories can minimize conflict.

Experience Level: Intermediate. The Cynotilapia Afra Cobue requires specific water conditions and dietary needs, making them best suited for hobbyists with some experience in maintaining cichlids or similar freshwater fish.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 76°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C)
  • pH: 7.8 to 8.6
  • Hardness: Medium to Hard

Tank Recommendations: A minimum of 55 gallons is recommended, with a preference for larger tanks to accommodate their territorial nature. A sandy substrate and an abundance of rockwork mimic their natural habitat, providing essential hiding and breeding spots.

With the right care and environment, the Cynotilapia Afra Cobue will thrive, adding a dash of Lake Malawi’s beauty to your home aquarium.
